SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
WAIKANAE. ( (
The attendance of householders at Waikanae on Wednesday last! was very disappointing, only seven householders being present. The retiring committee, consisting of Messrs T. Brown (chairman), G. Kemsley (secretary), H. Heffer, R. Hooper and A. W. Hubert;:, v,-a3're-elected.
The annual report, which appears hereunder, was read and afterwards adopted by the meeting:— ' Your committee is very released to report that very satisfactory progress has been made at the school during the past year. The inspector, in his annual report, expressed himself as well pleased with the progress of flu: pupils and the satisfactory slate of Ihe school,
especially as we arc now right up to thelimil of ii two-toucher school, and
an increase ju attendance of nine mure pupils would entitle the school to a third teacher.
Thoroll number at the present tune etands at 85, which shows an increase of 9 from last yen r V figures. Ihe ax er-a-c attendance at Ihe March quarter jmt closed was 72. N-iuc scholars sat ior their proficiency examination, seven of whom gained proficiency passes and two gained competency
During the past year the girls' tennis court was completed and equipped with nct , balls and racquets. Tins has provided a long-felt want, and tne girls are now aide to indulge in healthy and
interesting recreation. Your committee had brought under its notice the necessity of facilities by xvhich classes at the school could be given lessons in the open air during the very hot days of summer, and at once made efforts to provide an openair Classroom. This has now been erected, and your committee is pleased to state that the opeu-uir classroom has already proved itself n useful and highly appreciated addition to the school. ".The. fences around the old school Lave been repaired. 'Che cost ot materials, fur this work was borne bj the Education Board. The archway at the entrance to the school grounds has beet, completely renewed in iron and concrete, and now forms a substantial piece oi work. Flowering creepers arc gradually taking possession of the arch, wh.ch should should present a pleasing appearance when fully covorcd. The tool Shed has been altered so as fo give space in whirl, to .tore wood
and coal. The school pitmo has recently been thoroughly overhauled and extensive repairs effected, which have rendered the instrument much mure capat.no '•

tion of mineral specimens. The annual picnic took place on ■March sth last on Mr Hira Parata s property, and was greatly enjoyed by all who attended. Vour committee thanks are due to the ladies who had charge of the refreshments, and who. by their untiring efforts, were responsible in no small measure fur the suc-

There appears every chance ot such a school being established.
