A desire for "the easy lite" was said to have led to the appearance at West Ham Police Court of Arthur Cunningham, summoned for assaulting his wife. Complainant said her husband suggesred that she should go into business in a general .-hop. and she replied that wil'a their four children she could not do so. He then said: "You want me to work hard all my life, but I don't want that while other people are leading tho easy iil>." His tone made her cry, and titter e woman lodger had condoled with her the husband hit her in the face. she added that she had never been in business. Defendant, who said that his wife hud much provoked him, was lined £5.
