THE HOLIDAYS.

BEAUTIFUL WEATHER. r Holiday-makers were favoured with delightful weather for Easter. Kain threatened on Good Friday morning, . and was dull again on Saturday, but, as the day wore on the skies brightened and there was nothing to mar the pleasure of holiday-makers.

Otaki has been exceedingly well patronised during the Easter. The seaside resort lias been filled to overflowing, while the hotels and other accommodation houses have all been very busy indeed. It is probably the best Easter Otaki has experienced, so far as visitors are concerned. The beach was thronged with pienicers and visitors on Friday, Saturday, Sunday ax.d Alonday, while the Otaki Gorge was a favourite picnic resort. The hockey tournament at Otaki on Easter Monday attracted a great many people, and a goodly number attended the rifle sbeoiing at Ifautere.

j. AT THE CHURCHES. ; At S. Mary's Church solemn services were held on Good Friday, both in the morning and afternoon. On Easter Sunday High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Vibaud, who preached a sermon appropriate to the day. The largo congregation included many visitors. The “ ivyrie.” “Gloria,’' and

“Credo” were sung by Ihe choir in fine style, and solo.' were rendered by Mrs IK Al. J> ’Alii. Special services were held at All Saints’ Church during Easier week, and all were splendidly attended. On Sunday morning the church was packed, and at both the S a.m. and II a.m. Holy Communion services there were 'record attendances. In the evening

extra seating accommodation was provided. The Kev. G. F. Petrie. M.A., gave excellent discourses at both set vices, and tlie chun-li was most ell'cc’■lively decorated for the occasions. Mr J. Austin 131aekie (Wellington) and Miss Evolyne .Tones rendered line solos, While an anrliem was given by the ehoit jix :C pleasing manner.

The Rev. vr. G. .Slade, ALA., eonilucled both morning and evening services at the Otaki Methodist Church

pn Easter Sunday, when special services in keeping with tlie occasion were bold. Kev. Slade preached most eloquent sermons at each service. At the evening service the Sacrament of the 'Lord’s Supper was held.
