DYES FOR WOOLLEN MILLS
THE GERMAN ARTICLE. SUPPLIES NOW OBTAINABLE. The Government has arranged to obtain for the woollen mills in the Dominion German dies used in the woollen industry. Arrangements in this direction were made at the annttnl meeting of the New Zealand Woollen Mills Association in New Zealand lastweek. Mr J. Frostick, chairman of the Kaiapoi Comxrany, stated that only two small quantities of German dyes were used in New Zealand. The Germans made certain dyes mat up to the present had not been satisfactorily produced by Britain. Substituted dyes had been used in the British Empire, and these, although perhaps not as good as the German dyes, had answered the purpose to some extent. The Imperial Government had had a clause inserted in the treaty with Germany, giving the British certain--rights connected with the German dyes. There was no compulsion as for as New Zealand was concerned. but if the mills in the Dominion needed the German article the required quantity would be available.
