Tho well-known horseman B. Decley was married in Auckland on Monday March 8, to Miss Kay. A message from Sydney states that j the owner, Mr Wade, has issued a writ claiming £7OOO against the Bosehill Racing Club, in connection with the death of Estland. An unrecorded incident of New- ' market Day at Flemington (Victoria) is. told by a Sydney bookmaker. Late in the afternoon, when the bag was pretty full, one of the clerks sniffed, and asked what was on fire. The bookmaker and his clerks felt their pockets, but could iinil nothing. Suddenly smoke was seen coming from the bag. The notes were on lire. Needless to I say, there was more haste crowded into J the next few seconds than for the rest of the afternoon combined. All that was lost were a couple of Ids notes. A few others were scorched.

The. Taratahi-Cai'terton Racing Club has decided to apply for October 30 and November 1 for its next meeting. The Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club are considering the advisability of installing an electric, totalisator at the Clarevilie racecourse. It is expected the machine will be in working order for its next meeting.

The improvements that are being carried out on the Taratahi racecourse will make the track one of tho fastest in the Dominion —the making of a straight start for the six and seven furlong races.

At the Magistrate’s Court, Foilding, Mrs Webber claimed from R. Davis tho sum of £4(l, being the amount of the dividend paid by Lepanto when he won the hurdle race at Foilding in November last. It was stated that Mrs Web-

ber gave defendant £1 to put on a horse in the lirst race, and £1 to invest on Lepanto in tho second race. The first horse won and paid £5, which Davis gave to Mrs Webber, at the same time returning the other £l, saying he had forgotten to get a ticket on the hurdle race. After hearing the evidence for the defence, the magistrate said it was evident that Davis did not put Mrs Webber’s money on Lepanto, and gave judgment for defendant, tho plaintiff being ordered to pay £5 9s costs.
