SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT. < (From Our Own Correspondent.) A splendid programme was presented by the school children and one or two vi.-ifors at the Coronation Hall on Saturday last. The audience was probably the largest gathering ever assembled in the hall, several having to :s nd. Mr C. IS. Reeve was chairmen, and at the close of the entertainment r .jiresi ed what was «crtaioly the gcae-r-d opinion, that the efforts of the children far surpas-ed the expectations of the audience and reflected the great-e-i credit on the teaching staff of the •ehool. Several .-ongs wer nicely rendejed by the elder icholars under tho baton of the headmaster (Mr A. T. White). Perhaps the gem of the items v*ns an action »ong by the infant scholars entitled “Hnoiv Drops.” Although “no encores” wan the order, the audience would not be denied a repetition of this splendid effort, fcsolos were sung by Misses K. Fortune and 8. Lynch, a trio by Mir.xe.-s E. Fortune, 8. Lynch and P. Donovan, recitations by Mi -e« Fisher and Shaw (Waikanae)

and Masters, E. Hall, H. Fortune a’nd A. Burns, and a dialogue by Mirsea E. Brazier and O. Harris. Tw o very clever character dances were given by Misses Z. and N. Adams, nod two Scotch dances were nicely performed by Miss C. Miller, of Wellington. A very fine piece of work was a drill by infant scholars, the time ;i , j actions being very good indeed. Miss E. Lynch played the accompaniments for the xong.s and Miss Booth for the drill. The X'roceeds. are to be devoted to the school sports fund, and a very substantial amount should result. SCHOOL PICNIC. The scholars of the Paraparatnaa public school enjoyed their anaoal picnic on the local recreation ground on Friday kmi. There was a splendid attendance of parents and friends, and a programme of sports for the ysoag folks was successfully carried oat.
