OTAKI LICENSING BENCH
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly roeoting of the Otaki Licensing Bench was held at noon on Friday. Present: Messrs J. B. Stout, S.M. (chairman), H. Freeman, W. Tompsitt, Ben Ling, and Jas. McLeavey. read and confirmed The Clerk reported that plans for tho proposed hotel at Manakau had been submitted and approved of, while the licensee (Mr Atkins) said it was hoped to have the contract in hand in the course of a week or so. He hoped the building would be practically completein three months' time.
An application for a transfer from Annie Dodgan to T. P. Lyon (Grand Hotel, Levin) was granted, the latter stating he had complied with all the provisions of thß Act. An application for a transfer from E. Pearey to C. J.. Walter was adjourned to tho June meeting to allow the licensee to comply with the Act. Mr Walter explained that he was only a new chum at the business, and thought it unnecessary to comply with the Act till June, especially as he had been told by a previous licensee (Mr Edwards) not to do anything till then. Tho Clerk said lie had given tho necessary instructions, bat bad been overriden by an outsider.
The Chairman gave Mr Walter sound advice, and told him to take more notice of the clerk in future. Mr Walter sard he would give the matter his attention, and the Bench agreed to treat the matter lightly, but pointed out that if no action was taken he would lose his license.
