HELD UP BY A BULL.
Two travellers led by u Maori guide from Ruataluina. had a very unpleasant experience near the falls, about -6 invlcs from the Waikarexnoana Accommodation House. About eight o ; clock a black bull stood on the path. The dogs attacked, and the guide rushed at him to turn him from'the path, but in a moment the boast turned and made a savage jusii. The guide r s horse was slightly gashed, and another horse was threatened. Then the bull turned and ran along the road about fifty yards, where he remained the master of the road. The dogs and the Maori did their best, but nothing would shift him. The party could not get round owing to a el ill. and dared not show out of the fern for fear of being held up for the night, but The barking of the dogs attracted Mr Dale, and he came over in a bout with some others. The arrival of reinforcements frightened the beast, and an uncomfortable and dangerous experience ended towards midnight. The party met two- o r h*"*r. mobs
of wild cattle, and in one they were seriously threatened with a charge. It is >urely high time that those responsible for the track took steps to save travellers from such experiences.— *' * Wairoa Guardian. ’ r
