SUGAR SHORTAGE.

Owing to the shortage of sugar m Australia tlie last few months has seen an increased importation of this commodity from Java and other overseas ports, hut up to date there has been no sugar imported into Australia from Cuba, which is one of the greatest sugar-growing countries in the world. However, two vessels of the Commonwealth fleet have been chartered to load at the West Indian islands for Australia. The first vessel to take the berth will be Australrarge, which is to load at Cuba about the middle* of Ware'll, to be followed by the Australpool at the end of that month. Between them some lit,Otto tons ot sugar should be lifted.
