In referring to the suggestion recently put before (he committee of the j Manawatu Racing Club that an asphalt I track should be formed inside the I course at Awapuni so that the stipendi- ! ary steward might follow the raco* round in a motor car. "Pilot.'' in the "Sydney Referee." says: "It is doubtful whether a steward travelling at a fast rate in a car would be able to tell more, about happening in a race than if he had viewed il from a stationaryposition. " Several trainers had troul.de in get-, ting suitable stable accommodation for their horses at tin; recent New Plymouth meeting. To encourage trainers ; to visit this popular fixture, the club should follow in lhe footsteps of other clubs, and have suitable boxes erected at or adjacent to the racecourse. Tho difficulty at present existing lies in the fact that some of the town stables have been turned into motor garages. Gloaming has been turned out for a spell. It was thought, at one time that he would make the trip to Wanganui to contest the Jackson Stakes, but this idea has been abandoned. He is still suffering from the effects of a splint, and it is doubtful now if he will do any, more racing this season. A very hot favourite had just been beaten in a race at Woodville yester- j day when the band struck up "The : End of a Perfect Day." Tho owner; of the beaten horse, who had evidently supported it pretty solidly, did not seem to appreciate the tune, , j
