LAWN TENNIS.
The only competition game played at Otaki since Saturday was the single between Miss O'Rourke (owe 5) and Miss Mary Bennett (30). Miss O’Rourke, playing a good game, just managed to win, 51—43. The loser is a promising player, but, of course, lacks esperienee. H. Tahiwi challenged C. O’Rourke for “ladder” position, and a fine threeset resulted. Tahiwi took the first set, 6—4, while O’Rourke won the next two, both 7—5. ' It was a long and hard-fought match. W. Bennett easily defeated Penn for “ladder,” 6—l, 6 —l. Bennett promises well, and should mount another rung or two of the “ladder.” St. George and Penn commenced a “ladder” contest. ' After a long fight the match had to bo postponed. St. George won the first set, 7—5, and the next was 7 —6, in Penn’s favour, when play was stopped.
