LEVIN MARDI GRAS.

BIG EFFORT FOR BEAUTIFYING PURPOSES. It has been decided to hold a Marili Gras at Levin on February 11th, to raise funds for extending the public gardens at Levin, and for beautifying purposes generally. The function has been taken up with great enthusiasm, and has grown to far bigger proportions than was at first intended. Very keen interest is being taken in the competition for the honour of Queen of the Mardi Gras, several queens being nominated, and their supporters are “training every effort to secure the coveted honour.

The big function takes place on the Let-in Domain on Wednesday next, 11th inst., when a great programme will be got off, the full details of which are advertised. Already a number of entries have been received for the decorated motor cars, cycles and other vehicles. The tug-of-war contest is likely'to prove a specially interesting item, while the baby show, of course, will be a feature of the proceedings. Athletic and swimming events will help to make a most attartcive programme. We hope to see Otaki, Manakau and other parts of the district assist to make the function the success it deserves to be, and commend the efforts of the Levin people to our readers for .their cordial support.
