"JOY RIDERS."
A SALUTARY SENTENCE. Wanganui, January 26. Four young fellows who comman deered another men's car at Patea foi a joy ride have proved that thcii escapade was an exceedingly eostlj affair. They not only took the oar but caused damage to the extent of be tween £BO and £IOO. The offence having been traced to the. right, source the delinquents were brought before the Court, and the magistrate said he would see that each defendant made payment to the best of his ability. Each was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within nine months. Some salutary conditions were :.ho imposed: (1) To abstain from all alcoholic liquors for nine months, aud not to be found on licensed premises during that period; (2) they arc to report to the police once every month at Patea; (3) they are to pay compensation at the rate of £45 each to Jhc owner of the car in 4." weekly instalments of £1 each, and also pay the car owner's legal expenses.
