HOROWHENUA A. AND P. SHOW.

ANNUAL GATHERING,

' The first day’s show in connection with the above opened on Wednesday, when the attendance was fair. The morning opened fine, but rain fell in the afternoon. The management was good, while all officials, especially Mr R. I). Wallace (secretary), worked most energetically.

The pony section- was a mixed lot, while the cart and utility horses were most useful, the mitres for breeding purposes being especially good. The plough horses were a good lot. Dairy cattle were extremely good, all breeds being well represented, Ayrshire being most prominent. ’ The championship in purebreds fell to Mr T. H. Colpraan's Gladys 11., who holds an almost unbeaten record. The Jerseys were an improvement on last year, and some line specimens were shown, equal to those shown at Manawatu. The yearling bulls and heifers all showed excellent promise. The Ayrshires were a small but select lot, while several Friesians were guod, although on the whole the display was disappointing. The milking Shorthorns were a large and useful class. - In sheep the entries

■ were good, and there was keen compo- | tition. The fats were ‘very prime, I while several good freezers were judged. There was no competition in I Lincolns, and Downs were poorly represen led.
