PERSONAL.

Mr and Mrs Frank Evans, of To Horo, left on Friday last for Dunedin, where they will spend the Christmas. holidays. Dr. Sharp, who has been' relieving locum tenens in Otaki for the past. few weeks, is leaving to-day for Auckland. ■His place will be filled temporarily by Dr. Little.

Mr Cyril Hishworth, who has been relieving at the Bank of Now Zealand. Otaki, returns to Lower Hutt this afternoon, Mr W. D. Bennett having returned to duties after his annual leave.

Mr J. Vigor Brown, in a letter, offered to resign from the Napier scat if Kir Joseph IVard would contest the seat. Sir Joseph Ward has replied to the effect that he does not intend to reenter the political arena*

Mr and Mrs N. Prouro and family, of To Horo, will in all probability leave that locality and take up residence at the Upper Hutt early in the New Year. Having resided in the district for many years. and assisted in many local social efforts, and also in church work, they will bo much missed from Tc Horo.

An unfortunate accident occurred at Nelson on Friday, when Mrs Scaly, mother of Miss .Scaly, matron of the Otaki Hospital, was knocked down by a lady cyclist and had an arm broken. Mrs Sealy also suffered severely from shock, her advanced years making the injuries the more serious.

Mr and Mr= W. J. Diaper and fax ily. of Te Horo, who have been prominent residents Of Te Horo for many years, will leave very shortly to tsko up residence at Wellington, Mr Diaper having disposed of his business. Their manv frionde will wish them all success in their new home. Miss Diaper (postmistress at Te Horo) will remain at Tt Horo, for a time at least.

At All Saints’ Anglican Church last evening, tho Rev, G. 1". Petrie. SLAconducted a most impressive service, in memory of the late Dr. Huthwuite. The vicar spoke most eloquently and feelingly of Dr. Huthwaite’s many noble, Chriatlike qualities, of his devotion to duty, and his self-sacrificing life. “The Dead March in Saul” was played, all standing, while appropriate hymns were sung. Special mention of Dr. Huthwaita’s death was also made in prayers at the Methodist Churches in the district.

The Rev. W. G. Slade, M.A., who ha* been acting as organiter for the licensing campaign in Wellington South for tho past three months, is expected to return to Otaki to-morrow, together with Mrs Slade. The Rev. D&aiel, who has been acting as locum te-uens for Bev. Slade at Otaki, will take up residence at Paraparaumu, and take* charge of tho southern portion of the Otaki Methodist circuit until next Conference —probably until April next. Mr and Mrs Daoic-1 have done excellent work during their brie-f stay at Otaki, and residents thruoghoat the district will be very pleased to hear that Mr Daniel will remain in the district for a few months longer.
