STANDARDISED SCHOOL BOOKS.

Mr H. M. Campbell, tlie Reform M.P. for Hawke’s Bay, advocates the standardising and tlio free issue of school books to the children of the Wtatc schools. He points out that, with a shifting population such as New Zealand, changes from one district to another frequently occur, and it was a hardship on children, so transferred, having to take up new and strange i books, thus interfering with the sequenco of their training, and effecting the pockets of the parents. Standardisation would obviate the local discrimination in the use of school text books for subjects outside those provided by the Education Department.
