OTAKI METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.
ANNIVERSARY SOCIAL. - The Otaki Methodist Sunday; School anniversary social, held in the church last evening, passed oft' most pleasantly and successfully, there being a good muster of children and adults also, the church being well filled. The children's singing was a feature of the evening, they contributing several hymns, etc., in good stylo. The following programme was successfully carried out:—Hymn, the children; pianoforte solo, Janet Smith; recitation. Ena Fogden; hymn, four little girls; song. Rev. H. Daniel; solo, with chorus, Doris Ollivcr; pianoforte duet, Janet Smith and Marjorie Pcnn; recitation, Neil Synnott; song, Mr C. Eishworth; hymn, seven little girls. Tho Rev. M. Aspland (a visitor to Otaki) gave an interesting and instructive address, that was listened to with pleasure by young and old. Rev. H. Daniel, who acted as chairman, made a few appropriate remarks. Mr Cookrell (superintendent of the , school) read the annual balance-sheet. and made some remarks re the work of the Sunday School. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £2 odd in I hand, after providing for the maintenance of a Native teacher in Papua and donating £2 towards the Whiteehapcl Mission Fund. Mr Cockrell reported that the work of the school had been seriously interfered with owing to the epidemic last summer, and shortness of teachers had also handicapped the school work. The Chairman distributed the prizes as under; — » Seniors: Dorothy Cornish 1, Leslie Watts 2. Intermediate girls: Marjorie Peun (masimuni possible marks) 1, Janet Smith 2, Clirissie Olliver 3, Dorothy Smith special prize. Junior girls: Doris Olliver 1, Ethel Furse 2, Lucy Burditt special prize. -Boys: P. Cornish 1. A. Webster 2. Infants: Betty Olliver 1. Patty Olliver 2, Grace Olliver 3. All the infants received pretty picture cards. Dorothy Cornish was awarded a firstclass certificate for a pass in the recent t Sunday School Union examination, she i being "the only scholar from the school to compete. Supper was served, and brought a { pleasant gathering to an end.
