MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary’ monthly meeting of the above Board was held-last-night. l’r»- - .sent: ..Commissioners Brown (chairman), J. 'Meads; W. Noble, 11. Nicolsoh,'and R. M.- D’Atli. ' correspondence. Correspondence was read'and dealt with-as under: . From Hydro-electrip Power. 'League stating that progress was proceeding at Mangaliao, but' on account of “ redtape V the.rc was too much delay that should be eliminated.—lt was agreed i that this was so. From Levin Borough, .Council, stating ; it had no tar for sale. —Received. "From agents-of weed destroyer, stat- ; ing the mixture was .not now' being ■ made. One agent wrote offering du- : stroycr at what the Board considered : an exorbitant price.—Received, j From l’awhairoa Eruera (Matotiri), ! asking if the. .Board had arranged a selI tlcment relative to his claim for land ! taken at Otaki-. Railway.—Thp Chairman reported that he- had'gone to Mr Martin’s, (municipal solicitor) offices, but had found that gentleman' absent from town. In view of this nothing had vet been done. From August Bishop, complaining of',; the action of the ranger in taking liis'] horse, in yliat, he considered an unlawful manner.—As Bishop; wlio’Jiad been asked to attend, had not done so, no j action was taken. r General Business. j In view of the holidays it was da- ! aided to postpone the next meeting of t 1 lie Board till January loth, and that'' 1 the Board’s offices be closed - from; I December 24th to January 2nd, incai-i J sivo, and that the surfacemen be alioiVf ed holidays from the same dates, M elusive. \ '/ It was decided that an extra man be engaged for the purpose of cleaning up the footpaths, a'matter which had-got! beyond tho Board’s roadmen on ae-‘ count of other work. The drain near the Central Hotel was considered dangerous, and it was agreed something should be done to make the locality safer.—Referred to Roads Committee. H It. was reported that the County Couucil had considerably improved Tasman Road, but, unfortunately, had i struck very dry weather while carrying out the work. It was, however, considered that with a little .attention the road could be made a good one. The roadman reported that at present lie was engaged iu making concrete blocks for the footpaths, and that he intended to work on till about Christmas and lay the blocks early in the New - Year. ■ The following accounts were passed for payment:—R, Webby £ls 12s 6d, it.
