OVER THE TARARUAS.
TRAAIPING CLUB’S ACTIVITIES. To win new converts to Tararuaworskip, to show them how to make safe and enjoyable trips through the virgin high country “beyond the harbour,’’ and to blaze and broaden tho mountain tracks and increase the accommodation en route —these may be said to be the objects of the Tararua Tramping Club. For preparatory purposes, instructional parties arc organised to tram the local hills. The hon. secretary, Mr E. J. C. Witten, reports: Recently about twelve members had an enjoyable outing on the hills between Karori and Kkandallah. On Sunday, 23rd inst., it is proposed to walk from Brooklyn via Mount Hawkins to the coast. The tramp is not an overstrenuous one, and if the weather is congenial magnificent views of the Straits,-etc., are available. Maps of the Tararuas, backed and varnished, are now obtainable from the Chief Guide, Mr Vosseler, care of Messrs Aleock and C'o., Ltd., Baker’s Buildings, Fcatlierston Street, who should bo advised by any member desirous of joining any party making the trip over the Tararuas. A new hut has been completed in the Otaki bush, so that now there are four different huts available to club members.
