METHODIST SYNOD.
The'annual Synod of the Wellington Methodist district was concluded at the Webb Street Church, Wellington, yesterday afternoon. Kev. IS. Drake, district chairman, presided.
It was decided that the next district annual Synod should be held at Mesterton. It was hoped that by that time the large children’s home being erected at that township at a cost of £OOOO would be completed. Arrangement was'made for the cstab-In-Ament of district committees. This is a new departure in the working of the church, and it is anticipated that it will be of great material advantage. A large scheme for tho celebration of the centenary of Methodism in New Zealand was decided upon after considerable discussion. One feature of the celebration will be the raising of £35,000 for the promotion of the work of the church in the Dominion. It is intended to invite- the Rev. Samuel Chadwick, principal of the Cliffe College, England, Gypsy Smith, and Prince Consort Tugi, of Tonga, to be present. A resolution was passed recommending the conference to appoint a second minister to the Mastcrton circuit, and that the Rev. Val Trigg be invited to stay in New Zealand as an evangelist for another year. ’ The Rev. F. T. Read was appointed district representative on the station committee.
The Synod, while recognising the importance of military training for disciplinary purposes and its value in physical development, decided to protest against the suggested four continuous months camp for boys of 18 “on account of the grave moral dangers likely to arise from the promiscuous intercoarse of camp life.”
