MANAKAU.

PATRIOTIC SOCIETY. (From Our Own Correspondent). A meeting of the commitico of the Manakau I’atriotic Society was held on Monday night last, Mr Les. Atkins presiding. Tho meeting, after discussion, decided to take up the ease of a Manakau returned soldier, whose nairs were in a very unsatisfactory state, with tho object of assisting him and his family. It was decided to call a public meeting for Tuesday next, to discuss the matter of a peace memorial for Otaki. It was felt that if anything was to be done in this matter it should be taken np at once. It was for the public to say whether anything should be done or not, and therefore the public meeting is to be held. It is hoped there will be a largo and representative gathering, so that the matter may bo fuily ventilated and a fair expression of public opinion formed. The meeting decided to send comforts to a Manakau soldier who is in hospital at. Trentharo, where he has had a wearying time.

Other routine business was transacted and two accounts were passed for payment.

The Manakau school concert has been definitely fixed for Friday, December 12th. The training of the children will be in the hands of Mrs L. H. Atkin*, while Messrs Andrew and Trcvctbick will arrange other matters. The funds will bo devoted towards the gymnasium and maypole.
