MR McKENZIE AT TE HORO.
I Mr McKenzie spoke at Tc Horo last night, and was accorded a splendid i hearing, being warmly applauded for I several of his telling remarks. . He I dealt much on the same lines as at his Otaki meeting, stating he hud no: in* j tention of indulging in personalities, condemned the Government for failing to deal thoroughly with health matters, profiteers—despite glaring instances—detailed the bad conditions of the coalminers, advocated moro modern schools instead of the present out-of-date and insanitary ones, dealt ably with the cost of living, and concluded by stating that the Government legislation in all respects was only camouflage.
At tho conclusion of the address Mr Evelyn Macdonald asked what benefits would there be by nationalisation of mines. Mr McKenzie replied that the benefits of ownership would be that tlic State would gain .control of the industry, would be able to give tho men better conditions, and by economical management would get better results. Mr McKenzie, on the motion of Mr Diaper, seconded'' by Mr Evelyn Macdonald, was accorded a yery heurty voto of thanks. The latter said he had been very pleased to listen to Mr McKenzie, and glad to hear many arguments that were unanswerable. Mr McKenzie, in reply, stated it gave him pleasure to see Mr Macdonald present, and said he had no fear but that the two would get on well together and fight a clean fight.
