WELCOME TO RETURNED DRUIDS. r A pleasant evening was the result of the social—-organised by the local Lodge of Druids to welcome home' soldier members of the organisation—- . bold in the Theatre meeting-room on Wednesday evening- The function look tho form of a euchre tournament, iand quite a number took part in the interesting pastime, whilo several games were keenly contested. Mr J. R. Bills was in charge, and things were EBpt going merrily from start to finish. Tho first prize for the ladies was won J>y Mrs Albert-Smith, who defeated •Mrs Synnotfc in a play-off. Mr Bert Penney proved the champion in the lien's department, while: Messrs Capewell and Horace Freeman won the con- • eolation prizes. At the conclusion of the tournament supper, on a liberal g;cale, was served, and ladies, in particular, were most attentive in this ■ direction. Prior to'dispersing, leading, • fiiembers of the Druids’ Lodge- Messrs jp, Collins, D. Noble, and J. E. Bills extended a hearty welcome to the: Druids who had been on active service, effid gave brief accounts of what had Seen done for them while absent. It Was also remarked that while on duty they had proved efficient soldiers, and now’ that they had returned .would pxcfve to be the best of citizens, Mr Albert Smith (on behalf of kindred societies) and Mr Wesley Knight (on |he bowlers’ behalf) returned thanks tho Druids for providing such a pleasant functionrand expressed a hope that many similar gatherings would be hfiia next winter.
