PATRIOTIC LADIES.

A Wellington lady 'who has just returned from Hawke's Bay states that an excellent patriotic effort, was made in the district recently. One or two returned soldiers had succeeded in securing some land, but their means of stocking and working it were extremely small. So a number of residents made a public collection of implements, wirenetting, and all sorts of other goods, arrived at the farms, and distributed them, and did a good day's work in fencing, etc. The ladies provided a meat luncheon for the soldiers and about fifty helpers, and thus tho returned men had a good start in their .work, and a demonstration of the warm and kindly feeling which exists in many quarters where people have not always 1 some leader to show the way to make i it known.
