Y.M.C.A.
OTAKI BRANCH. A meeting of the provisional committee of the Otaki branch of the Y.M.C.A. was held at the Otaki Read-ing-room on Friday night last, the Rev. H. Daniel presiding. Mr S. J. Gilbert (organising secretary for the district) suggested that tho meeting might elect officers. Then they might arrange fdr a suitable building for meetings, secure equipment, and get a start right away. A discussion ensued as to the best ! steps to be taken, and as to how the . various activities of the Y.M.C.A. were ' controlled. Mr Gilbert explained that ■ each separate organisation, such as J cricket club, etc., would elect its own 1 officers and manage its own business, j The meeting then elected tho following officers, sonic of them subject to j their consent being obtained:—PrcsiI dent, Mr Byron Brown; vice-presidents, 1 Messrs H. Cockrell, J. S. Pole and L. St. George; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. R. Rudkin; committee, Mrs J. R. ■ Bills, Miss Kirk, Revs. Petrio and j Slade, Messrs Kershaw, Penn and . W. G. Taylor.
Mr Gilbert stated, in answer to a question, that the rate of subscription varies somewhat, but he suggested that the fees be: Boys, up to 16 years, 2s 6d per annum; from 16 to 21, ss; ovor 21, 10s.
A discussion ensued re the best building for meetings, and Mr Gilbert was deputed to make enquiries re same. Offers of ping pong requisites were made in the meeting, and it was suggested that as soon as a meeting-place was secured steps bo taken to secure games, etc.. and call a meeting of all those willing to join.
