Mrs E. T. Daniel (Wellington), who has been in Palmerston North on business, was among the week-end visitors to Otaki. Mrs S. W. Raplcy, who lias not been in the best, of health, is spending a holiday at Foxton. It is hoped the change will prove beneficial. A cablegram from New York announces the death of Ella Wheeler VVilsox, the well-known authoress, at, her home at Newhaven, Connecticut. Born m 1855, the deceased lady was a wellknown writer of novels and poems, liesides being an editorial writer for some of the American journals. Her publications were very numerous, and included “Poems of Passion. Kingdom of Love and Other Poems,” “The Beautiful Land of Nod,” “Poems of Experience,” “The Diary of a Faithless Husband,” “Yesterday,” “A Woman’s Letters,” and “Tho Air of Being Aliv%” Tho death occurred at the Otaki Hospital yesterday morning (if Sir Stanley Earl Gooding, fourth son of Air G. Gooding, of Otaki. Deceased, who was born at Tuul ercniknu ( Wairarapa) thirty-three years ago, spout most of his life in the Taranaki district, where he resided for some 22 years, during which time lie made many friends, being well known and highly respected. A little over a year ago he came to reside with his father at Otaki, being then in very- it different health. Despite all care and attention lie made no improvement. and on Friday last if was decided to remove him to the Otaki Hospital, but despite skilled attention he passed away. Death came suddenly, but peacefully. Deceased bore his illness with great fortitude. Much regret: >s expressed fjr Mr Gooding and other relatives, as this is the second bereavement they have suffered of recent date. The funeral takes place on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
