BOWLING.

A meeting of the committee of the Otaki Bowling Club takes place to-night to elect a secretary in place of Mr H. Witch ell (resigned) and to transact general business. The first match this season for the Dixon. Cup was played on the Marta-v.-atu green on .Saturday, between Manawatu (holders) and Fox ton (challengers). Prior to the commencement of the game the president of the Mar a-v.-atu Cicb (Mr C. F. Spooner) referred to the sad and untimely death of Mw Dixon, wife of the donor of the cup, which had 'taken place suddenly the previous afternoon. . Mr Spooner said that both teams had considered in view of the circumstances whether the match should not be postponed, but if was felt that Mr Dixon would not wish this to be done, and it was therefore decided to play the match. A motion of sympathy with 3fr Dixon In the great lasts be has sustained was. passed, and the players taking parr in the challenge march sent a wreath. The hollers played a particularly fine game throughout, and after the first . few beads led their opponent* right ! through the match. Hie challengers ■ played much below form.
