BOWLING.

OPENING POXTON’S SEASON. The Foxton Bowling Club deserves hearty congratulations on the really splendid opening of its season, held on Wednesday afternoon last. The weather was fine, and there was a record attendance, including visiting bow lers from Otaki, Levin, Shannon, Palmerston North, Feilding, and elsewhere. The local residents also turned up in force, making a very fine gathering, and the function was declared by all one of the best of the kind they had ever seen in a country town. The green was in capital order, and every rink was occupied by bowlers, who showed keen interest in the play. The Otaki visitor* (K. Canning, A. Smith, J. G. Stevens, and J. K. Bills) won their match against Foxton by Jarkius. Heasman, Jackson and Nve) 33—14. Otaki scored five in the .first head, and kept well in the lead. Their score included no less than three fives.
