HIDES AND TALLOW SALES. The N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report as under:— Hides.—After a delay of some two months auctions were again resumed. According to arrangements made by the Board of Trade tanners were permitted to select for their requirements 50 per cent of any of the lots as far as hides were concerned, and the whole of the calfskins in most cases. Tanners availed themselves of the full opportunities given them to obtain both hides and calfskins at the Government schedule rales, the balance'of the catalogues were subsequently submitted to auction. For this competition was excited, and Very keen competition oij the part of exporters, and all lines were cleared at very con.sidera,bJc 'advances on the Government schedule of prices. Jn the case of some ox hides sold under the' Government schedule at lid, as much as is lOd was obtained in .-uction for export purposes. Calfskins were also in very keen request; many of the cut and slippy lines realised as much or more than the sound lines, which wore taken by tanners at the Government schedule.
Tallow. —Buyers wore well represented, and competition was fairly keen; most-of the catalogues were cleared at fairly high rates, compared with those ruling at the last auctions held. 4-» -*Js.^. The range of prices was as under:—-

• NEW ZEALAND HEMP. The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated _ 11th instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand:-—London.—Helnp: Manila market quiet and steady. "J" grades, shipment to be in October, November, or December, £SO; New Zealand, market remains unchanged, shipment ft* be in October, November or December; high points quoted £47, fair £lO.
WAIKANAE STOCK SALE. The Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.,. report:— "We had a small entry of sheep and a good yarding of cattle at our Waikanae sale on Monday.
