ADDINGTON MARKET. Christchurch, October 1. Tho yarding of mutton and beef was still short at Addington to-day, and prices for both advanced over last week’s high rates. Store Sheep.—There was larger yarding, the general eondtion of which was poor, with a few exceptons. The demand was very brisk throughout. Two- ; tooth ewes 23s 3d to ,34s 9d, 4 and fitooth ewes 31s to 325, ewes and lambs (all counted) 14s 9d to 23s fid, 2-tooth wethers 32s to 355, 4 and 6-tooth wethers 33s Id to 40s Id, ewe hoggets 2fis 3d to 345, mixed sex hoggets 20s lfid to 31s, wether hoggets 22s 9d to 30s. Fat Cattle. —The entry totalled 220 head, and competition was very keen, as butchers are bare of supplies. Prices showed a slight increase on last week’s rates. Extra prime steers to £35 15s, prime £2O to £2S, ordinary £ll to £l9, extra prime heifers to £34 10s, prime £l7 to £2l 10s, ordinary £S to £IG, extra prime cows to £27 2s fid, prime £l4 to £l9 10s, ordinary £9 5s to £l3. Eat Lambs.—Forty-four new season’s lambs were penned and sold well, prices ranging from 24s to 43s fid. Fat Sheep.—There was a larger outry and a better proportion of big heavy wethers. Butchers bought eagerly, the demand was exceptionally keen, and prices were about a record for an ordinary' sale, the prices for mutton working out at Is to Is 2d per lb in many cases. Extra prime wethers to 92s fid, prime 50s to 7Ss Od, medium -15 s to 4Ss 9d, lighter 35s lOd to 445, extra prime ewes to G7s, prime 4fis fid to ->7s fid, medium 40s to 455, lighter 31s 3d to 37s fid, hoggets 25s to 53s hoggets 25s to 45s fid. Store Cattle. —There*was a slightly larger entry. Well-grown forward steers were very scarce. The bulk of the entry consisted of dry cows and heifers. The demand was fair. Cows £4 to £9 12s fid, forward heifers to £7 fis, 2-year-old steers £5 to £5 7s, yearlings £3, calves 13s to £2 2s. Vcalers. —There was a fair entry, the bulk being newly-dropped calves. Yearlings and large calves in moderate condition comprised the balance of the entry. The inquiry was keen for good sorts. Runners £5 5s to'£s 17s fid. goed calves 69s to 955, fair vcalers 42s to 625, small and inferior sorts 5s to 30s. Dairy Cows. —A small entry of better quality brought good inquiry. Second ■ and third calvers to £IS, aged cows £5 to £lO, heifers £5 to £l4 10s. Fat pigs were in small supply and , values rose. Heavy baconcrs £7 10s to £3 10s, others £6 to £7 (equal to lOld to llld per lb), heavy porkers £4 13s to £5 ss, others £4 to £4 10s (equal to Is to Is Id per lb), choppers £4 10s to £9 10s. An exceptional pig brought £lB 10s. Store pigs made the. best sale for some time. Best stores £3 12s to £3 18s, medium 48s to sfis, small 35s to 435. weanera 24s to 30s, small sorts 13s to 20s, sows in pig £7 355.
