WAIHOANGA POST OFFICE.
TO BE MOVED UP GORGE. : Recently a deputation of Waihoanga residents and Mr W. H. Field (member for the district) waited on the Chief , Postmaster with a request that the ! Waihoanga post office be moved further lup the Gorge. Waihoanga settlers will j be pleased to hear that the movement ; has borne fruit, Mr Field having received the following reply from the j Chief Postmaster:— | ‘ ‘ Referring to your interview with I me on thc*%tith ultimo in company with two other gentlemen from Waihoanga, I have now to inform you that the - aud telephone office at Waihoanga will be transferred to Mr Judd’s residence as soon as the necessary arrangements can be made. The mail contractor has had his subsidy increased in order to compensate him for the additional distance lie will have to travel to Mr Judd’s residence. It is, however, regretted that the proposal to extend the delivery to the Forks or to the Mavmorn estate could not bo agreed to. The gross estimated revenue from the service is only £2O a year, and the presdnt cost exceeds that amount. The extension to the Forks would have cost an additional £ls a year and to the Maymorn estate £SO a year. The rovenue would not warrant such an increase in the cost.”
