< AGAINST 250 MINERS. j In the Greymouth Magistrate’s , Court, the inspector of awards sought 'to recover from coalminers £5 as a I penalty for a breach of the Blackball j coalminers ’ award. This action was brought under clause 29, which deals with absence from work without the sanction of tho manager, unless it is due to sickness or accident. Mr Park appeared for the department and Mr Q’Regan for the union. Mr O’Regan -admitted the facts of the breach, but pleaded justification. The magistrate stated that he would simply record judgment for plaintiff and not inflict a nsminal penalty. He ordered defendants to pay -counsel’s fee of £lO 10s and witnesses’ expenses-£2 Is Sd. He warned tho union that in a future breach he would inflict the full penalty. Two hundred and fifty miners wore proceeded against.
