MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1919. VICTORY WAR LOAN.
For the cause that lacks assistance, For the wrongs that need resistance, For the future in the distance, And the good that we can do.
The war has happily ended, but the cessation of hostilities did not end the necessity for war loans. We have enormous liablities resulting from the war that must be met, and it is just a* imperative that this should be done as that, we should meet our obligations during the war itself. The latest New Zealand loan is a ten million Victory Loan, which is being placed before the public. The money-is required to pay the allowances, gratuities, cost of re-
patriation, expenses of treatment of wounded, and many other at'tcr-war expense* that must be met; therefore it is a patriotic loan pure and simple, that should recommend itself to every loyal Britisher. It is our bounden duty to provide for our gallant boys who have suffered through the bitter fighting, and to sec that their dependents are properly cared for. The £10,000,000 asked for is urgently required, and New Zealand must find the money herself, as she has done with previous loans." The amounts which have hitherto been raised have been expended within the Dominion, and it in the intention of the Government that the loan now being asked for shall be < expended in the country. The loan laskcd for is authorised to be raised under the Finance Act, IMS (No. 2), and both capital and interest will be . charged upon the consolidated revenue of the Dominion. The loan will take the form either of inscribed stock or I'carer-bonds at the option of the subscriber, or post office - nterest at the rate of 4J per cent will be paid, free of income tax. Thus the loan offers special inducements to vestors, quite apart from its claim for consideration at the hands of every patriotically minded citizen. The bonds are to be issued in denominations of £IOO, £SOO and £IOOO, or such higher amounts as may be arranged, and will be payable to bearer. Interest will be paid as from September 25, the date on which the loan closes, interest payments being mads half-yearly on April 20th and Oetober 20th. The loan is being issued at par. and may be taken «p on fally paid or instalment allotments, 100 per cent being payable on I application in the ease of the former, the instalment allotments being payable j 25 per cent on application. 25 per cent lon November 10th. 25 per cent on December ISth, and 25 j>er cent on February 2nd. War Lo-jin certificate.", repayable with interest compounded, free of income tax at tffe end of fire or ten years for stuns of £i and upwards will be issued to small investors through the Post Office, which will also issue Post Office 5 per cent War Loan In-
