WAIKANAE NOTES.
CLEARING SALE. (From Our Own Correspondent). A most successful sale of dairy cows was held on Mr Field's property, Beaeh Road, Waikanae, on Monday last. There Teas not a large number of buyers, but those who were there had come to buy evidently, competition being xaost keen practically throughout the gale. The top price realised was £3B, while £3l, £2B and £27 wore occasionally reached. The average for the whole herd was £2l per cow. The herd was recognised as one of the best, and buyers may rest assured that thoy have got as good for their money as they would get anywhere. Weancr pigs brought from 3Ss upwards.
"We hear now and then of the difficulties of the dairy farmer, who at present is debarred from using the railways to carry his stock. While at Waikanae the other morning tho train to Wellington was occupied a considerable time in lifting some racehorses which had to be sent away. Of courso racing is more essential than dairying, and brings in more monoy—to a selected few.
