On account Of not being allowed to use tho local training track to prepare his horses for important races, Mr W. H. Bowden has disposed of Probity to a Wellington sport, who has sent her to C. Pritchard’s stables at Trentkam, where she will receive her final work, and in all probability be a contestant for the New Zealand Cup in November. The annual meeting of the Foxton Racing Club took place on Thursday, when the balance-sheet showed a satisfactory state of affairs. Notwithstanding an increase of £350 in stakes tho club made a. profit of £579 on the oneday meeting. The totalisator handled rhe sum of £25,412, an increase of £417. The question of installing a 10s totalisator and a double totalisator was favourably considered, and will .be discussed later. The following were elected officers: —Patron, Mr F. Robinson; timekeeper, Mr E. Smith; clerk of scales, Mr J. Burr; clerk of course, Mr G. Coley, jun.; hon. surgeon, Dr. Mandl.
The Horowlicnua Racing Club at its last meeting gave £065 in stakes. For the next meeting £IOOO will be offered, including £250 for the Cup race and £l5O for tho open Flying. The manner in which racing clubs contribute to the public revenue was referred to by the Hon. E. W. Alison, who presided at tho annual meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club. Mr Alison said that the amount paid by the club to the Government as taxes during the last year was £6529 Iss. In addition, £499 7s Sd was paid by the club for local rates and land tax, making a total of £7029 2s Sd. This was just £520 17s 4d less than the amount of stake money paid by the club during the , year.
