Wanganui is at present experiencing a butter famine. "No butter" is a familiar sign on grocers' shop windows, i\hile the merest rumour that a fortunate purveyor has some in stock leads to an immediate rush setting in. Shopkeepers have taken to the broad principle of supplying a pound only at a time, with preference to regular customers. It is reported that fresh butter has been retailed locally as high as is lOd per lb.
The threepenny piece, which is so useful in the business .transactions v)f the community, has evidently rccoived attention at the hands of the counterfeiter, as some spurious coins of this denomination are in circulation in Duricdin. One shown to a reporter was apparently made of aluminium, but it was an excellent imitation of the genuine article, and on a superficial examination would easily be passed as good.

The clocks were adavauccd two hours, and while there he went to a soccer match commenced at 7.30 p.m., and in one instance a match was not finished until 9.45 p.m. All the football in Vancouver is played in the summer, and it is not an uncommon sight to see a football match and a cricket match being played on adjoining grounds.
A startling mishap, happily without serious consequences to those concerned, betel Mr and Mrs C. E. Tatton (formerly of Palmcrston North) and three of their children while motoring at Nelson last week. When going along the Maitai road near Hanby Park, the attention of Mr Tatton, who was driving, was momentarily diverted by a noise from one of the wheels of the ear. He leaned over the door to find out what was the matter, when the door flew open, and threw him off his balance. In recovering himself Mr Tatton lost control of the steering wheel, and the car shot over the bank into the river, and the occupants floated out. Mr Tatton. with the assistance of Mr Boyes, who happened to be in the vicinity, rescued Mrs Tatton and family, who were swept down some distance, the river being in fresh at the time. The river, fortunately, is narrow nt this particular point, otherwise the work of rescuing would have been much moid difficult. The car did not overturn, but settled down in water deep euough to just about cover it.
