The death-lias occurred at “Hawarden, ’ ’ Carterton, of Mr Alfred Booth, one of Wairarapa’s leading horticulturists, aged 73 years. Deceased leaves a family of three sons and six daughters. Word ha* been received that Mr C. Perhanr, of Manakau, who has been at Dunedin‘for some time past for medical -treatment, owing to serious wounds received while on active service, was operated! on a few'days ago. The operation—a most delicate one—was quite successful, and his many friends will be glad to hear that Mr Perham i* now doing as well as can be expected. The death occurred, at Levin on Saturday last, of Mr George Henry Edhouse, better known as “Jack Vincent.” aged 76 years. Deceased was a well-known identity all along this const, and at one time resided at Manakau. He was a clever writer, many of his poems appearing in various New Zealand newspapers, while he contributed to several New Zealand and Australian
weeklies. Mr .and Mrs Bcidy and family left Manakau on Friday last for the . Hawke’s Bay district, after twenty- ; five years’ residence in Manakau, t where Mr Ueidy has been engaged in I the railway service. During their lengthy residence in Manakau they have made many friends, who will wish : them all happiness and prosperity in | their new sphere. Their future move- • ments are as yet uncertain.
Flight-Lieutenants Weston Barber j and Charles Wildsmith (M.M.). both of ■ Te I-loro, returned home on Saturday ! last, arriving in New Zealand by the J Essex from Sydney, where they had been stranded for about three weeks. Both the young aeronauts arc in cxcct- ' lent fettle just now. They have been hsartily received by their many friends j throughout the district. Flight-Lieu-I tenant Wildsmith has had a partienI larly strenuous time of active service, | especially prior to joining the aerial I- corps. He was badly wounded, and had a lengthy period in hospital, but made o. splendid recovery. I A special meeting- of the officers of the Otaki Methodist circuit was held on j Friday night at Otaki, to consider a ro- > quest, from the New Zealand Alliance j for the release of the Rev. W. These was not ti large attendance at the meeting, ■ but a considerable number of church officers wrote expressing their opinion on the question under discussion.
