~ AN IMPROVEMENT THIS WEEK.
1 !' A considerable improvement in the railway service is announced by Mr I Massey. It is proposed to reinstate trains next week as follows: —A pusI senger train to leave Invercargill on ' Monday, 25th, for ‘Dunedin; a train
from Dunedin to Christchurch on Tuesday, 26th; Auckland to Wellington at 7.10 p.m. on Tuesday, 26th; Wellington to New Plymouth on Tuesday, 26th, on the time of the former mail train with a connecting train from Palmerston North for Napier; Wellington to Auckland, noon, Thursday, 28th; New Plymoutn to Wellington, Thursday, 28th, connecting with the train for Napier at Palmerston North; Christchurch to Dunedin, Thursday, 2Sth; Dunedin to Invercargill, Friday, 20th. It is hoped to be able to continue the service on these lines regularly hereafter. Opportunity is being taken to utilise the return services in increasing ibe haulage of goods, particularly urgent timber from the principal sawmilling areas. Tho coal position is still far from satisfactory, and the extended facilities depend upon the present coal position being maintained.
There will be an additional passcngei train from New Plymouth to Welling ton, connecting at Palmerston, with : train from Napier on Tuesday in view of the opening of Parliament.
