TENNIS CLUB,

' A general meeting of the members C f the Mana'kau Tennis Club was held on Friday night last in the schoolroom, Mr Andrew (president) in the chair. The secretary (Mrs Miekle) handed in her resignation and left the gatherin". The resignation was accepted. Mr A. Trovctkick was appointed secretary pro tern. After the minutes of last meeting had been confirmed, a letter was read from the editor of the "Otaki Mail," taking upon himself the whole responsibility for the fact the recent club coneert advertisement had appeared witheut the signature of the secretary. The advertisement had been ordered over the 'phone, and the secretary's signature had been quite overlooked. The Chairman commented on the fact that ths omission referred to in the above letter had caused considerable unpleasantness, and regretted very Much that this note of discord had destroyed the harmony that had hitherto prevailed in club matters. *•• The apology was duly accepted by the meeting. " :Jss*?B» A rough balance-sheet in connection with the recent concert and dance was presented, showing that there was a trcdit balance of a little over £l2 after paying all expenses. ' This was considered very satisfactory. The ladies who had arranged the •concert programme were heartily thanked for their services. " Mr Miekle reported that another £lo had been paid to the contractor for the curt improvements, and explained that the improvements would cost more than originally thought, it being found neecssary to /g ct sonic little extras done. , , It was resolved that the annual meeting of the club bo held on Thursday . of next week, August 28th, and that the meeting be advertised in the "Otcki Mail." On the motion .of Mrs Burncll, uconded by Miss Houghton, a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Jo the late secretary (Mrs Miekle), reference being made to the energy and enthusiasm displayed by that lady m icr office. The chairman led off in a hearty round of applause.
