Mrs E. T. Daniel, who has been on a business visit to Otaki, returned to .Wellington on Saturday.

Mr P. B. (“Day”) Anderson, who •has received an appointment with tho N.Z. Farmers’ Distributing Company at Wanganui, left Otaki to-day to take up his duties.

Mr B. It. Gardener has Resigned his •position as secretary to the Levin Fire Board, and Mr F. P. AValklcy has been 'elected to the vacancy.

I i jp r O’. Bickard has sold his interest in his farm at Manakau to Mr Bichard Kobinson, and is negotiating for townskij> property.

Mr C. Killeen, who recently disposed of his farm at Weraroa, has purchased a farm in the Hutt district, and leaves shortly to take up residence there.

Mr Fred Pirani entered a private hospital on Thursday night at Feilding to undergo an operation. He expects to be absent from duty for about three or four weeks.

Corporal Veruon Haydon, who has been on a visit to Levin, was on Friday evening entertained by several friends. Prior to returning to New Zealand Corp. Haydon was assisting in tho compilation of the N.Z.M.C.

Mr W. Cotton, who is a member of ■the Lorvcr Hutt Borough Council and the Hutt Licensing Committee, is a likely candidate for the Hutt seat at tho next election. Mr Cotton will fcitand as an Independent Labour candidate.

* Mr G. Watson, the victim of a recent assault, was among the visitors to Otaki to-day. Although far from recovered Mr AVatson is making progress towards recovery. In connection with the affair it is hoped the police will soon make an arrest.

Mr Percy, who has been appointed postmaster in place of Mr H. H. Cork, has arrived in Levin, but will not coiuimencc duties for a fortnight. In the meantime Mr Bean, of the relieving tetaff, will be in charge.' *

Mr AV. J. Connor, who has been 011 the local post and telegraph staff during the last six months, received notice of transfer to the accountants’ branch, .G.P.0.. AVellington, and left Otaki this morning. During his stay in Otaki, he hiado many friends and was a most popular officer amongst the staff.

■ Mr C. H. G. Hcdditeh, of the Bank tof Australasia’s staff at Otaki, leaves almost immediately for the north for ■health reasons, and during a three kveeks’ sojourn will visit Auckland, Wanganui, and other places of interest It is hoped the change will prove beneficial. Mr Byan, of Levin, is at present relieving.

The death took place at Palmerston K*rth Hospital on Friday of Mrs Sarah Muff, wife of Mr Arthur Muff, of Fairjfteid, Levin. Two sons and a daughter Preside in Canterbury, Mrs .1. AV. Perkins, of Levin, is a daughter, while another daughter lives in England.

'A pleasing function took place this morning, when Mr F. T. AVilton on behalf ofk the Otaki Dairy Co s staff, preheated Mr'R. W. Glentworth, who is gcaving. for fresh fields, with a valuable leather wallet. Mr AVilton spo "o in high terms of Mr Glentworth s Capabilities and wished him success. Thc recipient, who has been with the Company for about five years, suitably replied.

Sister Ignatius, who has been at the Otaki Convent for some considerable ftime, during which period'she has become very popular and endeared herSelf to miiny;, has received an important appointment at AVanganui, where She will open a new convent. Before leaving Otaki Sister Ignatius was the Recipient of several handsome presentations, including a valuable watch from, the school children.

On Friday afternoon last there was a pleasant gathering at the Te Horo Fchoolhouse, when the children and a number of parents and friends bade farewell to Miss Jeffries, who is about te leave the Tc Horo school to take up li position at MarlboroUgktown, near Blenheim. Mr G. AV. Kirk, on behalf i>f the school children, presented Miss Jeffries with a handsome gold brooch iind a box of handkerchiefs. Mr Kirk and Mr H. Catley (chairman of the school committee) both referred to Miss Jeffries’ estimable qualities as a teacher and a friend to the children, and expressed regret at her departure. Miss Jeffries suitably responded.
