I The conveyance by railway of supplies for essential industries such as dairy factories, sawmills, etc., is necessary to keep the industries going. The conveyance to the markets of the products of essential industries of the Dominion is of vital importance to the whole community, whether producers or consumers. Tens of thousands of workers are dependent for their livelihood on sawmills, factories, and manufactories continuing their operations at the present time. It is incumbent on yon to do your part in assisting to maintain the industries and by every means in your power help to obviate unemployment. Therefore, stay at home and make room on trains for the carriage of essential goods. FROM AND AFTER FRIDAY, AUGUST 1, 1919, every person desirous of travelling by rail beyond the limits of the suburban area will require I lo satisfy the railway officer that the journey is imperative, and being undertaken for essential business purposes, the bona lides of which the railway officer shall determine. j No person will be booked or permitted to join any train for travel beyond j the suburban area unless and until the - railway authorities are satisfied as to the bona tides of the circumstances and that fhe journey is necessary. Single tickets only will be issued. No ticket will be issued within 13 minutes of the time of the departure of the train. No person, except passengers who I arc in possession of tickets, will be per- [ initted to enter on the platform. The number of carriages to be run i on any train w ill be strictly limited. Persons who desire to travel are recommended to apply to the railway authority the day before that on which they propose to make the journey. Tickets will in all cases be issued subject to there being room on the train. No undertaking, implied or other--” [wise, can he given to carry any passenger by any particular train, or on any particular date. Passengers who are unable to travel on any one day will, as far as possible, be taken in turn or! subsequent dates: but no guarantee can be given sis to the interval that may necessarily elapse before the accommodation can be provided. Any person who purchases ticket.for journeys which they arc unable to undertake, owing to lack of train accommodation, may obtain a refund of their fares on presenting the ticket to the office of issue. The restrictions on passenger traffic J arc* being imposed solely tut the pose of conserving coal, and to provide as far as possible for the conveyance of essential goods traffic which cannot be dealt with under the existing arrangements:. owing to the 'urge nutcO'-t ; of passengers who have continued to travel since the coal-saving time-table was inaugurated on July 2, 1919. Investigation has shown that nearly 3u per cent of the !tax-eager- at the present time travelling by trains consist of women and children.
