_. ~$ I OTAKI V. IIUIA (WELLINGTON). ' A pleasant feature of rhc peace pro--1 ceedtngs was ih.i hockey match, Jluia 1 (Wellington) v. Otuki, played in the I Middling paddock, which has been specially prepared by Mr "Wooding, to whom much credit is due. The field had been thoroughly rolled, and otherwise treated, and play Mas of a fast and interesting nature. Only one goal was scored in the first half, Cook, for Otaki, scoring a smart goal. Early in the second spell Hailwood scored a fine goal for the visitors, and then play waxed even more interesting. The crowd cheered lustily when Giddena sco'red a beauty, and again excitement ran high as Carter, for Wellington, evened the score. Play was indeed brisk, but faulty play for Wellington's goalkeeper allowed Adsett to score. From this onward play was well up and down the field, but no further score resulted, and thus Otaki won a well-earned game by 3-2. The visitors gave a very rice stick display and their tactics were much brighter and cleaner than their opponents. Otaki, how-

ever, worked hard, and by some low hitting were frequently on the attack. Their play in the circle, however, was spoiled by unnecessary passing, and repeatedly they failed to make uee of

pportunities by passing. Messrs Noble and NieoLson were re

The visitors, were entertained by the local boys, and in this they were ably as.-istcd by the ladies, %vho were in

harge of the catering arrangements

A further match between the above teams took place on the Domain on Monday, when the Huias secured a win ')»- six goals to one (scored by Adsett). The game was by no means as • one-sided as the scores indicate, and it ! was sheer bad luck that Otaki failed i to increase their score. The game was I even throughout, and despite ihe | heavy nature of the ground play was ' at an interesting nature. The visitors put in a lot of- fine stick work, and • made the most of openings in the circle. Their win was well deserved- Messrs Noble and Murray controlled the game. , It is expected that- a return match - between the two. club- will take place at an early date.
