e THE STEAMSHIP KENNEDY PURCHASED. The purchase of tiie Anchor steamer Kennedy, to replace the Queen of the South in tho Foxton trade, has been completed. A new company, the Wel-lington-Manawatu Shipping’ Company, comprising business men of Wellington. Foxton, Palmerston and Feilding, is to be formed to control the vessel, and the head agents at Wellington will be Levin and Co. The Kennedy is at pre- • sent at. Nelson undergoing overhaul, j and she will later cOme to Wellington, probably about 22nd. July, io go on the j slip to have several plates replaced, j The Kennedy was recently inspected I by Mr Signal, Levin and Co.’s superin- I tending engineer, and found to be in a satisfactory condition. The Kennedy is well fitted for the Foxton trade, on which she will be exclusively engaged, as she has a light draught. She has a carrying capacity of about 260 tons. The Kennedy is an iron twin-screw steamer of 266 tons gross and l?.l tons net. She was built by the Australian S.N. Company at Sydney in 1563, and has been owned for some years by the Anchor Company. The principal dimensions are: Length, j 130 ft 4in; breadth. 10ft -tin: depth, 9ft. j
