WAIHOANGA NOTES.
There was a sound of revelry by night when the youth and beauty of Waihoanga gathered together with glad hearts to take part in a “Peace Euchre Party. ” The cosy schoolroom had been tastefully decorated with much bunting, and the first clematis flowers of the season clung lovingly to the walls. The play of the evening was a complete'reversal of form of the pre- : vious tournament, and many a doughty ! champion went down before the bowers j and aces of weighty opponents. Considerable enthusiasm was displayed when the genial and popular chairman, in a few eloquent remarks, thanked the assemblage for coming in such number.-, and gave out the prizes as follows:—First lady’s, Mrs Arthur Thomson; iirst gentleman’s, Mr E. Crampton; lady’s booby, Mrs Briggs; gentleman’s booby, Mr Beauchamp. After a supper which lingered in the memory ; of those present for many an hour, the j floor was cleared and seldom have I seen i such an exuberance of spirits, such a j boisterous flow of pure fun and inno- j cent mirth. The, pale light of dawn , was spreading its banners over the eastern sky before enough was cried, and wc all went home tired but oh so 1 happy. j
