PARAPARAUMU.
;• FAREWELL SOCIAL. A very successful social gathering was held at the Coronation Hall, Paraparaumu, on Wednesday night, for the purpose of bidding good ; byc to Mr and Mrs T. P. Dunne, who are about to leave the district, having disposed of their general store to Messrs Pishcr and Dabseheck. There was a largo attendance of all classes of the community, testifying to the popularity of the guests of the evening. The gathering 'took the form of a dance, with musical items interspersed. During the evening Mrs R. Maelehn, on behalf Of the residents of Para- : paxaunfu district, presented Mr and Mrs Dunne with a cheque for a substantial OIJJSU • E. Maclean, Frank Howell and J. Aplin gave brief addresses, all testifying to the popularity of Mr and Mrs Dunne, and to their many acts of
kindness and courtesy during their
stay in paraparaumu. Special referV - cnce was made to Mrs Dunne's most valuable services as secretary to tho local Patriotic Society for some considerable time, in the earlier stages of the war. During the evening songs were rendered by Miss Adams (a. visitor) and Mr Pitcher, whilo Miss Neumann gave a recitation. Mr Dermotfc Lynch acted ■as M.C. for the dance. The gathering was a very successful gnd enjoyable one.
A Labour meeting was-held at Paraparavfmu on Saturday night last, when a fair amount of business was transacted.
Paraparaumu is shortly to lose its popular schoolmaster (Mr F. Vaughan), who has occupied that position for the past thirteen and n-half years. Mr .Vaughan is held in the highest esteem by all residents of the district, and will be much missed, both as a schoolmaster, as an active worker in all local objects, and socially. The local people will take an early opportunity of bidding good-bye to Mr Vaughan. Miss Neumann, assistant teacher at Jhe local school, is also about to leave Paraparaumu. This young lady has made hosts of friends in tho district, who will hear with keen regret of her departure.
