MANAKAU.

ASSEMBLY DANCE. (Contributed.) A jolly little assembly danee was hold in flic Parish Hall on Tuesday, and although the weather was anything but pleasant, enough dancers were present, to keen it going merrily till midnight. There were several “beginners,’' for . these little dances are being organised for that purpose, and will at the same time Taise funds for doing some repairing to the Anglican c-hureh windows and path. They will be held fortnight13'. The music was kindly supplied by Mesdames Miles, Bryant and Smith, and Mr Mickle was M.C. A dainty supper was supplied by the ladies. Just at 12 o’clock a fire was observed in the vicinity of Mr D. Bryant’s, and all haste was made by the little gathering to find out where it was. It proved to be Mr Bryant’s office, which is only a few yards from his dwelling, and as Mu Bryant saw that it was quite hopeless he was giving all his attention to his dwelling house” which he thought surely must be destroyed, and had it not been for the social "held that night—for the number of willing workers could not have been „ ot together otherwise —nothing could have saved the whole residence and a number of sheds. Mr I.
