FARMERS' UNION
At the Manawatu sub-provincial executive of tho New Zealand Farmers' Union on Saturday, consideration was given to the following remit tabled by j tho Palmerston North branch:' "That j the Railway Department be urged to at once remedy tho scandalous method of : carrying live stock on the railway, | owing to the very serious loss suffered ! by shunting and unnecessary delay in transit." A lengthy discussion took placo on tho lines of that reported at the last meeting of tho local branch, members being agreed that the present system of moving stock on the railways left great room for improvement. Instances where stock had been lost through carelessness on the part of the railways wero cited. Ultimately the remit was deferred for further discussion at tho next meeting in order to allow the branches more time to consider it. Pursuant to notice, Mr Montgomcrie moved that the resolution passed at the last meeting at Levin concerning the procedure of dealing with remits be rescinded. The mover considered that tho old order of things should bo reverted to.
Mr Bond seconded tho motion, which, was carried. A nunibcT of other remits were held over for discussion, no reply having yet been "received from several of thd branches in connection therewith.
