RAILWAY SERVICE.
——s DRASTIC CURTAILMENTS. Owing to tho shortage of tl*c coal supply the New Zealand Railway Department has decided to inaugurate a I very much curtailed service from Wednesday next, July 2nd. All mail and express t rains have been cut out, while the goods traffic will also be restricted. •.The main alterations as a fleeting this jj district arc as follows: I T,IC journey to Auckland will occupy t: rcc stages, as follows:—First day, leave Wellington 2 p.m. for Palmerston North; second day, leave Palmerston North 7 a.m. lor Taumarunui (arriving about S p.m.); third day, leave Tanmarunui 7.15 a.m. for Auckland. Tho journey from Auckland to Wellington | will also occupy three days. A train will leavo Christchurch each day at 11.15 a.m., and will travel as far as Timarti, arriving there at 5.15. Passengers for Dunedin trill remain the night; at Tinmru, and will leave about 7,30 m;xt morning, arriving at Dunedin about, the same hour in the evening. There, will bo a similar service from Dunedin. Tho train will arrive from 1 iraaru at 0 p.m., and leave for Christchurch at 7.15 next morning, arriving in Christchurch at 3 p.m. Wanganui and New Plymouth. —A tram for Wanganui will leave Wellington at 8.4 ■a.m., arriving at Wanganui tit 0.20 p.m. Passengers for stations beyond Wanganui to New Plymouth will have to, stay overnight at Wanganui, leaving there at 7.35 a.m. next day. Napier The Wclb’ngton-Napier j«arnoy is to be served by a train leaving Wellington at 8.4 a.m. and arriving at Napier at 9.15 p.m. A train will leave Napier at 7 a.m. and reach Wellington tit 9 p.m. Palmerston North. The Wanganui and Napier train from Wellington at 3.4 a.m. serves Palmerston North. There is also a later train at 2 p.m. for Palmerston North. Trains leave Palmerston Nerth for I Wellington at 7 a.m. and 3.39 p.m. The only trains for Wellington will leave Otaki at 9.30 a.m. and 0.5 p.m,, while the only up trains leave Otaki at 11.8 a.m. and 155 p.m. Very restricted limitations arc place*? upon the carriage of goods, and the Department's advertisement {jives a list of the only classes that will be accepted for transit. They coutpaitz chiefly foodstuffs, fuel, agrleultural requisites consigned to farmers direst, and household necessaries; and alcoholic liquors arc amongst tho clmsss that will not be carried.
