SMOKING AND HEALTH.
‘ NOTABLE INVESTIGATION INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE. An international committee of eminent specialists is being formed under the presidency of Dr. Alexander Lambert, one of the leading New York physicians, agd formerly head of the Aoier- ' iean lied Cross in France, to make an impartial investigation into effects of tobacco on health, and efficiency. I Sir William Osier who is said to be devoting himself to special studies of tlie heart, is reported to have joined the committee. Among the other ntemV bers are: Professor Cannon, of HatI vard: Professors Faruum and Fisher, of Yale: Dr. O. H. Rogers, chief physician of the New York Life Insurance < Company, and Dr. E. L. Fisk, head of tlie Life Extension Institute. It is intended to include industrial leaders as well as economic and medical specialists on the committee, and the exact effects of tobacco will be determined hv scientific experiments on students, athletes, business leaders, and working men.
Dr. Fisk, speaking oil behalf of the committee, said: “An authoritative; analysis of the tobacco situation has never been made. The question is now bein'-- forced on public attention, and the public, therefore, should have the true facts. .When our investigations are completed we shall submit a report covering-all phases of the tobacco question, the people can determine, intelligently what they want done, j “We shall divide the committee into 1 sections devoted to physiology, clinical I medicine, hygiene, and- economics.
