OTAKI POLICE COURT.
A SHORT SHIRT AND WAISTCOAT. Topene Kupara, a local Native, this lnorning appeared before Messrs Prank Bennett and W. Tompsitt, J’s.P., charged (1) with being drunk in Mill road ’on the 21st inst., (2) indecent behaviour. Constable Sathcrlcy stated that at about 10.15 on Saturday night he received information that a. mad man was making towards the kiosk, and on investigation found the accused clothed only in “short shirt and waistcoat.” Tcpenc, on being questioned, said ho had been catching herrings and had lost his clothes. A search had been made for the garments, but as the night was dark no trace, had been found.
Tcpenc stated that he left Otaki with the intention of going to Katihiku, and took his clothes off for the purpose of swimming the river. He failed to cross, however, and on his return could not find his clothes. In consequence of his node condition ho returned towards town to buy some, but got lost in the meantime. Finally he was arrested and bailed out.
For being drfink Tcpeno was lined 20s, but the Bench looked upon the second charge as more of an accident than of a wiful nature, and therefore entered a conviction only.
